common fish species
in this section i will talk about the best types of fish to have in my oppinion and compatibilty. some fish have a secific compatibilty like the cichlids most sharks meaning they can only be housed with certain species were as some fish like platies, mollies and guppies have a wide range of other fish they can be housed with but other bigger fish they cant be i will explain this in further detail soon. first i will explain the fish i have then into more complexed fish like cichlids and sharks wich i have put on another page under the more icon on the top right
kuhlie loach or coolie loach
now this is one of my favorite loaches as it seems so secritve and eel or snake like. it dont grow that big and can be housed with smaller species of fish like neons or guppies
size
4inches (10cm)
behaviour
these are a great addition to any tank as they are very peacefull and can be curiouse little fish but at the same time the are very secritive and hide alot and this may sound very wierd but it is true as i have seen this myself when i put in some decorations like a little boat and a few plants they come out a little then i added more plants and decorations they seem to feel safer and come out more and more now this is becouse i have discovered from my observations and research that they are sensitive to light as they are normaly a nocternal species i intend on adding some floating plants that will provide shade
diet
they will eat most flake food if it reaches the bottom as most fish will eat
it so fast it dont even reach the bottom.
i put in catish pellets every evining watch them sneak out to finch a couple before the other fish get there.
they also eat bloodworms
breeding (egg layer)
it has bread in the aquarium but no one specificaly know how and when to bread them they do it on there own i have not successfuly bread these fish yet but if they do breed ill let you know what happens

size 3 to 6 cm
behaviour
it is a very curiouse little fish diving to any new fish or decoration in the tank. fast swimming and and sometimes it may swime very elagently though the layers in the water. a very freindly fish and very peacefull
diet
will eat lmost any food u put in
from flake food to sinking pellets and eats blood worms skinned peas and sweetcorn
breeding (livebearer)
now golden rule if you want to breed guppies is more females to males an extra 2 to 3 females
these fish are very easy to breed as they seem to give birth to there fry and then get pregnant straight away they give birth to loads and loads of little fry that should be removed and put in a pre prepared tank for baby fry as the parents will eat there babies straight away.

cherry barb
cherry barbs are 1 of the only or the only fish that i personaly know that can be put in the same tank as mollies and guppies as thay are a peacefull barb and not fin nipper or agressive like other barbs. these barbs the female (above left)is an orangy colour were as the male (above center) is a nice cherry colour and when in breeding they turn to realy bright cherry colour which is very pretty to see

harliquin raspora
harliquin resbora what a pretty little fish very playfull and curiouse i have observed these fish to play in the water flow from the filter its like they race through or dance its a great site to see i have these in a shoal of 5 as this is the smallest shoal we can get away with as we have a large aquarium. the bigger the tank the bigger the shoal loves to swim through ornaments and plant life
behaviour
very peacefull little fish and as you see from the picture it is lovly coloured and stays as a tight shoal and rearly strays aways and there is only 1 fish that stays in front of the shoal as if to keep watch from pretitors and search for food
diet
will also eat flake food sinking pellets and sometimes will eat blood worms but not many as these are tiny little fish they fill up quickly
size 1and a half inches 4 cm

upside down catfish
now the upside down catfish is a very secretive nocturnal fish there are two main types there is 1 that predominatly swims upside down and one that ont till it matures well thats to my understanding
very colourfull and a pretty little catfish it is one of the smaller versions of catfish i hve three in my fish tank now and love to gaze in at night when the light is of for about an hour after words they start to come out of the wood work as it were
behaviour
peacefull fish and likes to keep to them self should be in a shoal of three or more but rarely seen as a shoal i think when theres more of them they must feel safer
size 4 inches 20 cm
diet catfish pellets
breeding
not known in a home aquarium

plec catfish ,suckermouth catfish
now this has to be my favorite fish in the world since i was a little child my mum had a fish tank and i used to sit for hours and hours just watching the catfish latch onto the sides of the tank sucking on the alge and when they are big enough you can see the gills moving along the side. although they grow quite large in the end it is a very facinating fish to have in your tank. SHOULD NOT BE PUT WITH DISCUS it will latch on to the discus and chew of the slime and put the victim under alot of stress and potentually kill the its victim
behaviour
very solatry and has it own territory and will chase of any bottom dwelling fish out of its own space. but other then that it is very peacefull and dont go out of its way to attack
size 20 inches 50 cms
diet
alge alge waffers catfish sinking pellets and rarly if u are lucky it may swim to the surface and go upside down and take the odd bit of flake food
breeding
not known in the homa aquarium

neon tetra
this is another favorite fish of mine i like to keep em in large shoals as there colours are better looking and healthier in shoals and right lighting
and this fish is so common people shouldnt have and trouble finding neons as its so populer
behaviour
a tight shoaling species lovly and peacfull to watch in the shoal if you watch them closly like the harliquin rasbora there is 1 like the boss he stands out in front keeping watch for preditors and food
size 1 and a half inches very tiny compared to most fish
diet
bloodworms and flake food and sinking pellets
breeding
i have not yet bred neon tetras before but i intend to from the research i have made recently i have found that they only breed just after the rainy seasen in the wild so i think the best thing we the aquarist can do is attatch a spitter bar to the air flow(if on surface) so it seem like its raining for about two weeks then take it off so its mimicks the rainy seasen then they hopefully breed and lay there eggs now i cannot garantee this will work so if not i oppologise im gonna try this myself soon so ill keep you posted on my results
