problems and deseases
cloudy water
this problem is mostly quites straight forword as some times its new gravel witch u should always always wash thouroly several times before useing but even then it can still cloud your water when filling ur fish tank maybe consider puting a rock or a small plate on the gravel and slowly pour watr in this will greatly reduce the cloudiness and the cloudyness should settle within a day or so. BUT never wash andy gravle or anything for the tank with soap just normal water will do SOAP KILLS. and sometimes it can be the filter itself making th water cloudy it may need a clean or replacment pads inside or it can b to small for the tank and the amount of fish you have
common mistakes
sometimes the newfishkeeper will become impatiant and wont wait a week or so for the heater and the filter and the good bactirier to grow this can lead to new fish dieing very quickly and sometimes withno symptoms and alwas use a water treatment declonitor this is a MUST
and by waiting a week u can ake sure all the equipment work like the lighting hater filter and personaly i hink waiting a week builds ur exitment an also make u apreciate it more

pop eye
pop eye is exactly how it sounds. it were the fishes eyes litrally pop out of the sockets. what causes popeye is fluid building up behind the eye. im not to sure why or what causes popeye but it normaly only affect one fish in the tank so dont worry about other fiish in your tank.any species of fish can get popeye although this is not as common as people think. for treatment i suggest going down your local aquarium dealer as he should have the right advice and treatmentr for that individual fish.
neon tetra disease
neon tetra disease i would like to start by saying i dont no everythng about this desease i have had this propem in my tank myself and its not easy to gt rid
sometimes it is caused through over crowding wich causes the neons immune system to be weakened and in time they get a parasite ( sporozoan, Pleistophora hyphessobryconis) wich infects the intestings and what suprised me when i done some research that it affects not only the neon tetra it affects some barbs and rasboras and angle fish and i have also recently found out that even gold fish can get it so please be carefull what you put in your tank and if u get it do not panick its not your fault what i done and im not sure if it was luck but i done a 80% water change wich seemed to help and slow it down and i still have all my cherry barbs and most of my neons but sadly there is no known cure for the infected fish
symptoms
tail looks broken
they shy away from there own shoal and prefure to be alone and will chase fellow tank mates away
they go of there food
there lose there couler a bit but this fades rapidly
here is a list of fish that can get ntd( neon tetra desease)
neon tetra
harliquin rasboras and other rasboras
cherry barbs
and angel fish
and some cichlids
and other barbs
and cyprinids
and even the common goldfish can full victim to this horrible disease

fin rot
fin rot is a horrible thing i dont no exactly how long the fish suffer before it becomes apparent. sometimes i have heard the fish dont show any symptoms or somtimes it just looks like there tail fin has been nipped by other fish but if u moniter everything closly u will see each fin will look nipped but as it spreads see the fish will start to swim diffrently and struggle to swim
symptoms
fins rot and look nipped
trouble swimming near the end
and as you watch things you may notice that the fish will go off food anything you may put in it will turn its nose up to it
treatment
any decent aquarist supplier will have the right medicen and be sure to read all lables and leaflets that come with it as quite alot of medicens out there are harmfull to shrimp frogs and anything without scales and sometimes if you have a box filter like i have (a fluvel u4filter) you may have to take the filter carbon out.

swim bladder syndrome
now this particuler one is easy to spot as the infected fish has taken in air from the top of the surface and will swim very diffrently to normal either on its side or nose up in the air or tail up and have great difficulty keeping its balance iu have had my goldish and some of my tropical fish suffer from this it is very easy to treat what i do is lay of the flake food that floats as this is the main cause of this and put in catfish pellets which i dont no about all fish but my topical fish go mad on it or i put in some peas with out the skins as this foods sink it seams to push the air out of the swim bladder and in a few days they should be fine
symptoms
the fish has great difficalty swiming
sometime swim up and down without any sence of direction
treatment
sinking food

swim bladder desease
this version of swim bladder very alike in syptoms ut nothing you try and do it just wont sort its self out so the best course of action is go to a specialist aquarists shops that have the medicene and be very carefull most medicens cant be put in with the scaleless species as it may harm or even kill them and u may have to take the carbon out of your filter hope this helps
hole in the head
hole in the head is exactly as it sounds. it is basicaly a dent or a small hole in the head i have never expearanced this myself "luckily" but from my understanding it can be treated with medication i will read and research more about this and let you know what i discover

worms and other parisites
worms now who likes the sound of that i certainly dont do you the horrible littles things invade the fishes body in hundreds of differant ways though the eyes fins mouth and sometimes its almost im possible to tell. the ways i look out for these horrible little mosters is i look for a swelling in the belly this aint garanteed as the fish could be pregnant so it is always advisable to know how and what fish are breeding an other way to tell is by looking at the eyes some times theyu discouler and another way is the colour of the fish sometimes it goes dull and almost all the time the fish changes its food habits some fish eat more as the worms eat all there food and some other times the fish refuses to eat anything at all one last way that i no how to tell is that the fish may want to be left alone and swim away from the other shoal member and swimming habbits change.
